A gown is bought for a specific evening — a reception, an anniversary dinner, the one photograph that stays on a wall. Ours are built accordingly: corseted or boned bodices where the shape needs to hold for hours, skirts weighted so they fall rather than float, and hems finished to sit just off the floor in heels. Each is cut in a small run and hand-finished, so no two evenings end up looking the same.

Choosing a gown for the occasion
For a wedding reception, choose structure: a corseted bodice with a full or fishtail skirt photographs cleanly under harsh light and holds through a long night of standing. For a cocktail reception or an awards evening, a sleek column in a deep pigment is easier to move in and reads more modern. If you are a guest rather than the bride, avoid ivory and pale gold in Indian wedding settings, and lean towards jewel tones, wine, midnight or a controlled metallic.
Fit, length and hemming
Gowns are cut to a standard height with heels in mind, so bring the shoes you intend to wear when you try the piece on. The hem should clear the floor by about a centimetre when you stand. Bodices are the one place where sizing up rarely helps — a corseted bodice works because it is close, so fit the bust and rib and have the waist taken in if needed. Floor-length pieces travel best rolled in tissue rather than folded flat.
Styling without competing
A gown is already the focal point. Keep jewellery to one decision: either a statement earring or a neckpiece, never both. A metallic sandal and a small clutch finish the look; anything structured or oversized fights the drape. If the bodice is embellished, leave the neckline bare entirely.

Questions we are asked
- Can a gown be altered?
- Yes. Waists, straps and hems alter easily, and we cut with a little seam allowance for that reason. Corseted bodices and embellished panels are harder to change, so choose those by bodice fit first.
- Are the gowns suitable for a wedding guest?
- They are made for exactly that — receptions, sangeets and cocktail evenings. We would avoid ivory or pale gold as a guest and suggest jewel tones, wine or midnight instead.
- How should a gown be stored between wears?
- Hang it on a padded hanger inside a breathable cover, with the closures fastened so the bodice keeps its shape. Heavily embellished gowns are better stored flat in tissue.
